Minten's Rise: Young Center Powers Bruins' Hot Start

Bruins fans, we need to talk about Fraser Minten. The 22-year-old center has gone from useful depth piece to the hottest name on Causeway Street, and if you haven't been paying attention yet, now's the time to start.
Minten scored twice in Boston's 6-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night at SAP Center. That gives him a team-leading four goals and seven points through the Bruins' first seven games. Yes, he's leading the team in goals, on a roster with David Pastrnak on it. Let that sink in.
Recently bumped up to the second line, Minten has three goals and five points across his last two games, and he's done it without giving up any of the responsible two-way play that earned the coaching staff's trust as a rookie last season. That's the part we love most. He's not cheating for offense. He's just making the right plays, and the offense is coming.
Two big nights
The breakout started at TD Garden on Saturday, Oct. 10, when Minten put up a goal and two assists in a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Skating with Marat Khusnutdinov and JJ Peterka, he set up Khusnutdinov's first goal of the season early in the third period with a slick pass from behind the net. Later, he took a feed from Peterka, flew through the neutral zone, and tucked home the final goal of the afternoon. Three points, one very happy Garden crowd.
Three nights later in San Jose, he did it again. He opened the scoring in the first period off a feed from Casey Mittelstadt. Then, with the Sharks pressing and Boston clinging to a 4-3 lead in the third, Minten tipped in a Khusnutdinov pass for his second goal of the night. That one ended San Jose's comeback hopes. He finished the night plus-4, and the win kicked off Boston's longest road trip of the season and pushed the club to 5-2-0.
And don't forget, he scored the very first goal of the season too, breaking a scoreless tie late in the opener against the Rangers. When the Bruins need a big goal, Minten keeps showing up.
A bigger role, and a long-term bet
The Bruins made their belief in Minten official before the season even started, signing him to a seven-year contract extension in September. Seven games in, that deal is already looking like smart business, and we're feeling pretty good about having him locked up for a long time.
What stands out isn't just the scoring, it's how he's doing it. Minten wins races to the net, finishes in tight and still takes care of his own end. A center who can drive offense without becoming a defensive liability is exactly the kind of piece a contender needs. And you can see his teammates leaning on him more and more in big moments.
The right mindset
Maybe the most impressive thing about Minten is how level he stays. Big night or quiet night, he goes about his business the same way. That's rare for a young player who's suddenly getting this much attention, and it's a big reason we think this hot start is more than a flash in the pan.
“There is never a moment where you think, ‘okay, this is going to be a good year.’ You have to do it the right way and the consistent way. It’s really been about being in the moment, not dwelling on a bad night and staying level-headed after a good night.”
– Fraser Minten
That's exactly the kind of approach that turns a good start into a great career.
What it means for us
A 22-year-old two-way center who can carry a scoring line gives Boston real depth down the middle, the kind of depth that matters in April and May. Seven games is a small sample, sure, and the road trip will test whether the production holds. But right now, Fraser Minten is giving Bruins fans plenty to be excited about.
So the next time he hops over the boards, keep your eyes on number 93. Something special is happening. 🐻
